I-TO-I - work placements abroad for volunteers - ongoing

From pioneering the 20-hour weekend TEFL course in 1995, this company has gone on to support work placements abroad for volunteers. Its Volunteer and Work Abroad brochure contains opportunities ranging from two week mini ventures to one-to-six month voluntary projects in 14 countries to paid one-year teaching placements in South Korea.   Projects include: community development, conservation, building, health, media and teaching.  Following one volunteer’s experiences in Nepal when she found herself teaching English to trekking porters as a sideline, i-to-i is now researching the possibility of setting up new teaching placements in Nepal’s mountain villages.

The top ten gap year projects are:

Care for lion cubs in South Africa
Be a radio DJ in Ghana
Volcanic lake conservation in Guatemala
Teach school children in Sri Lanka
Help Nepalese street children
Write articles for The Times of India
Amazonian rainforest conservation
Teach English in the Masai Mara
Herbal medicine in Brazil
Vulture preservation in Croatia

Visit www.i-to-i.com or phone 0870 333 2332 for more information.  Costs range from £995-£1795 for up to three months including training, insurance, food and accommodation (in most cases), in-country orientation and support, 24-hour back-up in the UK and complete fundraising and travel advice.  Minimum booking deadline is six weeks.
