These annual awards give young disabled people aged 12 to 18 the opportunity to undertake a new activity or to experience something for the first time. It could be learning a new skill, fulfilling an ambition or helping shape a career after school or college. The project may be big or small but must benefit the individual and their local community. The three award categories are: social and community activities; disability awareness and integration; and active and outdoor pursuits. Successful applicants will be given a mentor and receive support, training and a grant of between £2,000 and £8,500 to run their project. Closing date: beginning of July .

Winners of the first round of the scheme included Sophy Billing, then aged 19, who set up a band, which is writing its own material and performing for the local community in the West Midlands. And Keith Johnston, aged 15, of Northern Ireland, who created a website to encourage young people across the world to discuss and debate topical issues.
