What are the rules regarding the election of a teacher governor? (05/05/06)
Question: What are the rules regarding the election of a teacher governor? Can a head ask for nominations and officiate in voting?

Joan Sallis replies: The election of governors is delegated to the school and it is normal for the headteacher to organise the process in detail. The arrangements should be such that participants consider them fair, and any perceived departure from fairness or any interference in the process by any person can be the subject of complaint to the governing body and ultimately the LEA.
