Governors' minutes (05/05/06)
Question: I would like some information on obtaining governors' minutes from two years ago. I left the school then after being unjustifiably threatened with formal capability procedures.

Joan Sallis replies: Governors’ minutes (excluding any items which the governors themselves have classified as confidential) are public documents and anyone can go into a school and ask to see them. How long they are kept is a bit more variable and space is sometimes an issue after a number of years, but I would say that two years should be well within normal practice and desirability in any school. If there are items on a disciplinary matter the detail may of course have been classified as confidential at the time. Any employee who has been unjustifiably forced to resign may of course have a case suitable for an industrial tribunal.
