eTwinning initiative - ongoing

Schools throughout Europe are being encouraged to register to eTwin with each other through a renewed web portal, developed by the European Commission and available in 20 languages. The portal give teachers inspiration for projects through news, interviews, learning materials and a forum, and promotes an awareness of Europe’s linguistic and cultural diversity. The theme changes each month, November 2005’s being “the use of ICT in education”, inspired by the World Summit on the Information Society.

More than 500 projects have been set up so far, one example being Ogre grammar school, Latvia, which twinned with Borbely Lajos Szakkozepiskola, Hungary, so that pupils could monitor and compare water quality in the rivers near their schools.
