Fire education programme - ongoing
Having begun as a pilot scheme in Tower Hamlets in 2002, the London Fire Brigade’s LIFE programme (Local Intervention Fire Education) is now run in numerous London boroughs. London Fire Brigade staff have also collaborated with other fire and rescue services in Northern Ireland, Hampshire, East Sussex and North Yorkshire, who now also run the course. The completion of the 100th LIFE course will be celebrated on December 2.

During the five-day course, young people take part in training exercises such as the use of breathing apparatus, how to rescue a casualty from a smoke-filled building, hose line practice and problem-solving tasks.
