Spouse of staff as chair of governors (19/07/06)
Question: Can a person married to a permanent full-time teaching assistant at a school become the chair of governors at that school?

Joan Sallis replies: I see no reason why not either in law or common sense. The teaching assistant would not be eligible to be chair of course. If we were talking about the spouse of the head I might say ‘not illegal but perhaps unwise’, but I can’t see any harm in your situation.
