Bully of a head
Making sure a school's complaints procedure is in place and publicised.
Question: What would you expect a chair of governors to do if a teacher complained in writing about the bullying behaviour of the Head?

Joan Sallis replies: There really does have to be a system for everything, which everybody knows and accepts and, what’s more, uses. If a serious complaint by either parent or staff member can’t be amicably settled within the school the GB should have a written and well-publicised complaints procedure to consider it. A small committee should be elected for the purpose – it isn’t fair or right that the Chair be expected to deal with it when it gets serious.
