Pupil power is big news these days - gone are the days of thinking that kids "should be seen and not heard". You're not a forward thinking school if you don't involve your students in as many elements of decision making as possible.
School councils take part in discussions on school dinners, school uniform, the state of the loos and, yes, the growing trend is to include them when recruiting for new staff. Just look at some of the ads in TES Jobs and you'll notice several junior artists' impressions of their current headteacher.
So, if you're looking for a new teaching post, don't be surprised if your interview panel includes the full range of the school community, including pupil representatives.
Now, one school has gone a cut above the rest - its pupils, in their search for a new headteacher, have decided to make their own advert and post it on the internet.
The 80 pupils at Horton Primary School in Oxfordshire have been without a headteacher since July when their last one retired after 13 years in the job.
In the film they set out their requirements - these include someone who's "good at sorting things out", "smart and fun" and who can be "fair but if we're naughty we should get told off". It may also be to your advantage if you're " a dancing fairy with spiky hair" but don't let that deter you if you think you've got what it takes!
The pupils make a good case for the merits of the school, saying it's " a friendly place" with "no bullying" and "lovely children".
If you think you can cut the mustard then contact the school directly at www.hornton.oxon.sch.uk/ or take a peek at the advert: www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtQZ26JOYIo.
