DCSF guidance on the recruitment of teachers
The Department for Children, Schools and Familes (DCSF) has guidance for the safe recruitment of teachers and other staff.
A single document, entitled Safeguarding Children and Safer Recruitment in Education, explains the vetting processes such as the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB). The document clarifies the new measures which came into effect on January 1 2007.

The guidance is a consolidated version of earlier guidance material, and includes:

* Recruitment and selection processes
* Recruitment and vetting checks
* Dealing with allegations of abuse against teachers and other staff.

The document sets out best recruitment practice for schools, LEAs and FE education sectors, and is also of interest to recruitment agencies who supply staff to schools.

The document also explains the process for dealing with allegations of abuse against staff.
