The first step is to assess your visa options. Start with the Department of Immigration and Multi-cultural and Indigenous Affairs website. Australia can be very picky about who it allows into the country, but teachers are better placed than most.
You’ll also have to get your teaching qualifications assessed by AEI—NOOSR – it’s part of the Australian government Department of Education, Science and Training and has responsibility for the assessment of teaching qualifications and skills for migration purposes. You will have to go through this process as part of your visa application.
You should also get hold of the General Skilled Migration booklet from the Australian Government - Department of Education, Science and Training website.
Teacher registration and recruitment practices vary across states. Each state has its own procedure for accreditation. Start with the Government Education Portal and also check out the Department of Education, Science and Training website.
Finding a job
Australia has three types of school broadly speaking – state, Catholic and independent. You stand a better chance of getting a job in the Catholic and independent sector than in a state school.
