I trained at Anglia University at Brentwood and qualified in 1999. My first job was at Wells Park School in Chigwell. This was a residential primary school for children with EBD. I taught years 5 & 6.
After three years I moved into Secondary and set up a behaviour support unit at Holywells High School, Ipswich, teaching those youngsters that were causing the most problems in classes.
After 2 years I moved closer to home and took up the post of Senior teacher at the Integrated Support Service. This is where students who have been permanently excluded are sent. Unfortunately these students seem to be allowed to choose whether they want to take up the education offered and most chose not to. My days seemed to be spent on crowd control.
Two years ago, I changed jobs again and set up specialised classroom for challenging youngsters who are bordering on permanent exclusion and surprisingly successfully teach them core subjects.
