Each pupil needs three pieces of A6 paper. They can then use these to form expressions for perimeters and areas. (based on ideas from Ollerton's 100+ Ideas and an nrich course)

I like this approach to algebra, giving it meaning. There is the possibility for children to explore and learn for themselves. Thanks!
