TES Career Seminars
The TES Career Advice service runs a packed programme of careers advice and professional development seminars hosted by TES experts. The seminars will cover the hot topics of the moment.
Each seminar has a maximum of 18 attendees, so that every participant has an opportunity to ask the presenters individual questions. The seminars generally take place in central London, although some regional opportunities will be available soon.

The workshops are generally held at the HQ of TES, 26 Red Lion Square, London WC1R 4HQ Tickets for the seminars are usually available three weeks before the event. Demand for the three hour seminars is high so early booking is advised.
Our team of experts
TheoGriff - With nearly 40 years of teaching under his belt, many years as the head of a large HMC independent school and nearly 20 years in senior management, TheoGriff draws on a wealth of experience on all aspects of job seeking and does consultancy for schools looking to appoint Senior Leaders.
Tom Bennett - Our resident behaviour expert, is a full time teacher at an inner-city London school, running the Humanities Faculty. He’s written two books for teachers on behaviour management and teacher training, and has worked as a consultant for BBC3. In his previous career Tom ran night clubs in Soho, which taught him a lot about dealing with difficult customers!
Lynne Johnson - A qualified careers adviser with more than 10 years of experience of providing advice and guidance to adults on issues relating to learning and work. Recently she has been working as a consultant for the TDA providing guidance to career changers who are considering a career in teaching.
Helen Beckett - With over 20 years’ experience as a journalist and editor, Helen has written extensively about careers and workplace issues for a variety of publications. Most recently she was careers editor of TES Connect where she helped set up the careers advice clinic for teachers.
James Williams - James is a lecturer in education at Sussex University. He is a former science teacher, head of department and assistant headteacher, with over 12 years state teaching experience. He is a regular contributor to the TES and has written on education for a number of national newspapers. He is currently the TES forum expert for student teachers and NQTs. He is also a regular contributor to TV and radio programmes on education. His latest book, published by Continuum, is “How Science Works: Teaching and Learning in the Science Classroom”
Sara Bubb - Sara leads England’s Advanced Skills Teacher (AST) network and has featured on and been a consultant for many Teachers TV programmes. She trains and quality assures AST assessors and sits on the Training and Development Agency for Schools’ (TDA) Journal’s editorial board.
Marian Cassidy - has taught for over 30 years across four key stages and has worked as a headteacher and deputy head across several London Boroughs and in several different countries. She was also chosen by her L.A to train as a Local Leader in Education through the N.C.S.L.
Maureen Ward - is an experienced educational professional with over 25 years’ experience. She has been an SEN Co-ordinator in a primary school and, as an adviser has supported SEN Co-coordinators in primary and secondary schools. She is a trained Reading Recovery Teacher and led a peripatetic team of literacy and numeracy specialist teachers for 4 years. She was Inspector for Literacy in an Inner London borough and introduced the National Strategies at both primary and secondary levels, before moving into a generic Principal Adviser role. As an experienced School Improvement Partner, Maureen has detailed knowledge about what Headteachers and Ofsted are looking for from SENCOs.
Debra Gingell – Debra has worked for the NSPCC for 4 years delivering child protection workshops and working with vulnerable children and adults in a variety of settings.
Jane Borgeaud - Having worked as a class teacher and senior leader in Hackney, Jane Borgeaud went on to work for 8 years as an Education Consultant, providing consultancy on teaching and learning and management to over 200 primary and secondary schools across Greater London. In addition to presenting workshops for the TES, Jane continues to work with schools in the Reading area, offering consultancy and leading sessions with pupils as a Project Coordinator for REinspired.
