The Language of the Month website offers lots of FREE resources for promoting language awareness, including programs showing videos of children teaching their home languages, resources for putting up language displays, a booklet with 100+ ideas for celebrating community languages, and lots more. Many languages are covered: Afrikaans, Albanian, Arabic, Bengali, Cantonese, Catalan, Dari, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Gujarati, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Kannada, Lingala, Lithuanian, Makaton, Mandarin, Mauritian Creole, Nepali, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Romanian Russian, Sinhala, Slovak, Somali, Spanish, Swahili, Tagalog, Tamil, Thai, Turkish, Twi, Urdu and Yoruba. The project was a winner of a European Award for Languages in 2005. To view the website you will need Flash Player 9 and a fast Internet connection.

Superb!
Thank you so much for all your hard work, my children absolutely love learning each other languages through your site. My Somalian children are beside themselves that I can speak a few words of their language now!

Excellent!
Having worked in schools with a large percentage of EAL children in the past, it's a shame I didn't find this site sooner. I'm about to start a post grad diploma in working with bilingual learners and I can't wait to implement the brilliant ideas and activities which have been suggested!

This is great
I've just found it and I can't leave it alone. This is just brilliant no longer do we have to suffer with a lack of communication due to different languages. All we have to do is open up this resource and once again the world will be talking. Yes its good to talk adults at school and the children. Yes I'm so excited!

What a wonderful website!! ive just had 2 children start in my reception class who have no english and they will love this and so will the rest of my class! thank you for helping to break the language barrier down :)

An amazing resource - my Polish/Portuguese/Urdu/Punjabi/latvian children love it and so do the non eal children.

Fantastic & so useful
Thank you so much for making this available. I found it through the magazine and it is brilliant for my class in not so traditionally diverse Guildford. We have increasingly more children from all over the world and not so much expertise on the staff but to have children teaching the languages is wonderful. I can't wait to show it to my colleagues tomoro. Thank you again.
