From the TES expert, Jennie Golding:
This comprehensive disc addresses most of the existing national curriculum for Mathematics in about 60 easily-navigable topic files: for example, the FDPRP strand lists Ratio and Proportion Problems as a topic from which different activities can be accessed by level.
The presentation is clear, colourful, and largely “straight”, but often interactive (for example, initial information can often easily be changed). Material would enhance any expositional part of the lesson after some preparation so the teacher is familiar with the particular approaches employed, but could also be used by small groups, pairs or individuals at their own computer.
Solutions are frequently annotated with generic strategies, supporting students’ development of understanding alongside technique, and the authors (practising teachers) have gone to some lengths to embed activities in appropriate cross-curricular and real-life contexts.
My Years 8 to 10 certainly feel that the activities they have used to date are both engaging and authoritative. The CD offers a good value complement to a standalone teacher, being far superior to the many electronic textbooks on the market, and we shall be embedding a good selection into our schemes of work.
