Seeing the eco light

Primary | Published in TESS on 28 August, 2009

An Eco Chandelier, made by pupils at John Paul II Primary in North Lanarkshire, will be switched on officially on September 1. Art link officer Bob Saunders says it is “absolutely fantastic” and an example of A Curriculum for Excellence at its best. The local authority’s cultural co- ordinator commissioned a product design company called We Are Curious to work with pupils. The project took about 12 months and engaged the whole school in research, maths and science, all related to the chandelier, as part of its Eco bid. The next phase will be collaboration with its feeder secondary school to design a modified bicycle with a dynamo to generate an alternative power source.
