Faith falls foul
The Accord Coalition has no objection to voluntary-aided religious schools having their buildings improved - their teachers and children deserve adequate facilities ("Taxpayer picks up the tab for faith school refurbishments as expenditure spirals", October 9). However, what is much more questionable is that schools receiving public money should be able to discriminate over admissions and employment - as voluntary-aided schools can - as well as be exempt from having to follow the locally agreed SACRE (Standing Advisory Council for Religious Education) recommendations for the RE syllabus.
