North Queensferry Primary in Fife has its own kitchen garden, praised by HMIE in its latest report. The school’s eco group decided to grow flowers and vegetables and met with interested parents to discuss the idea. A year later, they have a “fantastic” garden area with wheelchair access, made from recycled and locally sourced products, including sleepers to make the raised beds, and seaweed gathered from the local beach as fertiliser. A large number of parents and pupils came to Saturday gardening events to help build it. All the pupils, including the nursery, plant and tend the garden and harvest crops for school dinners. They have entered produce for the annual village flower show and sold any extra to the local community.
