Teaching outsourced

News | Published in TESS on 17 September, 2010

A primary in north London has become the first state-run school to outsource its maths teaching to India. Ashmount Primary in Islington has been piloting the move with half of its Year 6 pupils, providing them with one-to-one online tuition with teachers on the subcontinent more than 4,000 miles away; it now plans to extend this to other year groups. The service is provided by a company called BrightSpark Education, set up by UK entrepreneur Tom Hooper.
