We are looking for an Art Teacher in a school which offers outstanding opportunities for professional development.

The role

The Art Department at Twyford School offers a diverse programme of creative study from KS3 - KS5. At KS3 Art is taught to all students in Years 7 and 8. The students learn skills in the formal elements, and experience a range of media from 2D to 3D. In Year 9 students choose from a range of electives designed to give them a more diverse experience of Art in preparation for GCSE and A Level. These electives are: Textiles, Digital Art, Graphics and Fine Art. Art is popular at KS4 in both Graphics and Fine Art. At A Level students are able to combine Fine Art with Graphics and Photography; creative A Levels are popular and many students move on to further creative study or work. We have a history of excellent KS5 results.

Student numbers: At GSCE we have an average of 33 pupils split into two classes. We currently have two classes in Years 10 and 11. At A Level we have a large intake of pupils in Fine Art; we currently have 27 students split into two classes in Years 12 and 13.

Results:

Fine Art GCSE: 85% A* - C in 2012 and 75% A* - C in 2013

Fine Art A level - AS in 2013: 41% A, 65% A-B, 96% A - C

A level - A2 in 2013: 31% A / A* grades, 73% A*-B, 93.8 % A* - C. VA of +0.12

The Art Department is made up of four members of staff each with a different specialism. The post will allow the suitable candidate to teach within the Fine Art department from KS3 - KS5 and have experience of teaching at GCSE level. The ideal candidate would also be willing to participate and support the department's extra-curricular programme running various classes such as KS3 Craft Club, supporting the A level Art TAP programme (with lectures and portfolio classes for A level students) plus GCSE catch up classes at lunch times or after school.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A good degree and Qualified Teacher Status
  • Ability to teach Art to KS5
  • Knowledge of the requirements of the National Curriculum
  • An understanding of recent curriculum/learning developments
  • An understanding of the strategies required to motivate and enthuse all students across the ability range as part of a whole school approach to raising achievement
  • An understanding of the processes and techniques required to assess, record and report students' learning effectively
  • Ability to be reflective and driven towards self-improvement
  • Energy and enthusiasm
  • A strong commitment to the Christian ethos of the school
  • The role is suitable for NQT applicants

The School

Twyford School, Acton was set up by the LDBS in 1981, and is one of a group of 13 LDBS schools in London. The school has an excellent reputation and was rated as 'Outstanding' in its most recent Ofsted inspection (May 2012). It has developed specialisms in Music and Modern Foreign Languages as well as a large and highly successful Sixth Form in which Maths, Science and Computing are the largest areas. Since its inception the school has grown considerably and now admits around 900 students aged 11 to 16, and an additional 500 students to the Sixth Form.

The Twyford Trust was established in October 2011 to allow the existing School to build on its successes and look outward to the large number of parents who were eager to become part of its community. The Trust aims to deliver outstanding education in a comprehensive school setting, and embraces the Twyford School motto 'Life in all its fullness', encouraging students to use their individual gifts wisely and well. Supported by the London Diocesan Board for Schools (LDBS), the Trust is now the overarching organisation which provides support for both Trust schools with the William Perkin School, Greenford having opened as a Free School in September 2013 with its first intake of Year 7 students.
