Job overview

Assistant Director - Education and Learning, Ipswich, Suffolk

Suffolk is a unique county. With its mix of large towns, beautiful coastal villages and rural communities Suffolk has an individual culture with a strong sense of place and community. As a council, Suffolk has an impressive record of performance, achievement and innovation and is currently assessed as one of the most efficient county councils in the country.

This success does not come without its challenges, not least in Children and Young People's Services where we face the twin demands of raising the educational attainment and aspiration of children and young people in the county as well as maintaining excellent services through an intense period of transformation and integration, all set against the backdrop of an extremely challenging financial landscape.

To help lead the service through these challenges, our Corporate Director of Children and Young People's Services is now seeking an exceptional Assistant Director to provide the leadership, vision and determination to support the directorate through its next phase by delivering a vision based on excellence, cost efficient services, partnership working and listening to the people of Suffolk.

As an Assistant Director, you will bring significant experience and a proven track record of strategic leadership, delivery in large complex organisations and significant experience of Children and Young People's Services. Just as importantly you will understand the wider, changing local government agenda and have the talent and flexibility to translate this to and make this work for Suffolk.

This is a significant role in both scale and challenge - it presents the opportunity of taking a lead role in a major authority to a new phase in its Children and Young People's services.

Interested? For an informal discussion, please contact Sue Cook, Corporate Director of Children and Young People's Services, on (01473) 265353.

For more information and details of how to apply please visit www.gatenbysanderson.com.

Closing date: 06 May 2014.

This authority is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. DBS checks required for relevant posts.
