Merton is a high performing outer London Borough that has earned a reputation for delivering excellent services and value for money - we were named Best Achieving Council of the Year at the 2013 MJ awards.

This is an exciting time to lead our education team. Our schools are performing well after having delivered the best GCSE results ever. We have a good Ofsted profile and excellent relationships with head teachers and schools.

We'll look to you to enhance school performance while leading on education inclusion, early years and children's centres and active engagement with schools. You'll shape a team of three Service Managers as you take charge of SEND, the Education Partnership and Schools Forum. You will also deliver demanding targets in providing childcare places for to year olds.

You'll come to us with comprehensive knowledge of education and education improvement together with strong leadership and performance management skills. An understanding of social care would be highly desirable. Fully conversant with managing finances and budgets, you will have political nous together with real insight into how local authorities work. It's likely you have a background of managing significant cultural change within a large local authority. A completer-finisher with a can-do attitude, you will have the ability to challenge the views of yourself and others.

This is a fantastic opportunity to shine at a high performing Council with a strong commitment to putting children first.
