Job overview

Excellent opportunity to join an ambitious school in Wandsworth.

ARK Putney Academy opened in September 2012 as part of the ARK Schools network, as a non-selective, new 11-18 academy. It is a mixed school with 465 students, ranging from year 7 through to a very successful sixth form. Having been recognised in 2011 by the DfE as one of the most improved schools in the country, ARK Putney Academy was judged by Ofsted, in March 2013 to be a good school in all aspects of its work.

We are now looking for an Assistant Head who will lead on the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the academy's maths provision. You will ensure that teachers are appropriately trained and supported to become good and outstanding teachers such that students in the academy make progress in line with their aspirational targets. This role offers a challenging but exciting opportunity for a dedicated and ambitious individual to develop as a leader and a rapid and significant impact to the outcomes for our pupils.

The maths faculty at ARK Putney Academy is a successful and growing department that enthuses a high proportion of our students to study up to 'A' level. This is an excellent opportunity for a middle leader looking to move to an SLT position.

The successful candidate will have the ability to plan and deliver challenging and engaging lessons (up to 'A' Level) that instill a passion for learning for the subject. Whole school responsibility will be available for the right candidate.

To apply, please complete the online application form at: https://application.arkschools.net/vacancy/WsFDpjZn by 11am on Tuesday 21st October.

For questions about the position, please contact Alison Downey on 020 8788 3421 or a.downey@arkputneyacademy.org.

For any technical issues regarding your application form, please contact the recruitment team on 0203 116 6345 or schools.recruitment@arkonline.org.

Closing Date: By 11am Tuesday 21st October 2014
Interviews will be held on Thursday 23rd October 2014

ARK Putney Academy is committed to safeguarding children; successful candidates will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Values and vision

At Ark Putney we have a holistic view of educating young people. Our mission statement is;

Preparing every student to be a pillar of any community

By this we mean that we are focusing on developing students to be the very best they can be in all aspects of their lives  not only through academic progress but also by developing the soft skills that will enable students to be successful in the world such as good manners and the ability to speak confidently combined with the desire to participate through sport, the arts and contributing to charity and community projects.

This can be illustrated by our core purpose, which is to provide students with:

  • An appreciation and curiosity for life and learning
  • The courage and ambition  to unlock and fulfil their potential
  • A desire to contribute to society in a positive way
  • A sense of self –awareness, combined with the integrity  to be compassionate towards others

The main drivers for this are our Six Pillars as listed below. These permeate academy life and can be seen in everything that we do, think and say at APA. They are also a focus of our assemblies, reflections and tutorial activities. They help to guide us in how we behave, what we do and what kind of people we want to be:

  • Effort
  • Team work
  • Community
  • Enthusiasm
  • Commitment
  • Independence

In March 2017, Ofsted rated the academy as good in every category and highlighted our students’ progress and achievement at GCSE and in sixth form. The full report can be read here.
