Job overview

Assistant Head (KS2, Behaviour and Pastoral Care Lead), Croydon

Join the leadership team and help make a real impact on the development of an ambitious local school.

ARK Oval Academy is a mixed, non-denominational, two form entry primary school for local children. The Academy aims to offer a great education in a friendly neighbourhood school, with the highest possible aspirations for their pupils. Since opening in 2011, ARK Oval Academy has made tremendous progress due to the hard work of both staff and their pupils, and the academy has created a trend set to continue.

Due to internal promotion of the current postholder, we are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and committed Assistant Headteacher to lead on KS2 as well behaviour and pastoral care across the whole school. The successful candidate will work closely alongside the Headteacher to lead the delivery of outstanding levels of pastoral care and behaviour development strategies that ensure students are supported in a way that maximises their capacity to learn, in a positive, secure and happy environment where each pupil can thrive and flourish. You will use your inspirational leadership to set high standards from the outset and implement practices and programmes so they are maintained and embedded. Your relentless enthusiasm will motivate and support other staff and encourage a shared understanding of the contribution they can make to all aspects of students' lives.

Our ideal candidate will:

  • be an outstanding practitioner with a proven track record
  • have experience in a pastoral role
  • have a strong focus on numeracy and literacy
  • be experienced in managing others and supporting them to develop their teaching
  • have a passion to inspire students and will do whatever it takes to achieve success in a challenging classroom environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and ambitious individual who shares ARK Oval Academy's ethos, believes in the potential of every child, and is dedicated to raising attainment levels and ensuring that each child makes continuing progress.

  • Thankfulness. We are thankful for the opportunity to transform our dreams into goals.

Curriculum

Reception pupils follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.

We provide a stimulating indoor and outdoor learning environment where children will be motivated to communicate, explore and learn independently. A carefully planned range of activities provides a rich, age-appropriate learning experience across the curriculum.

All children need a firm mastery of English and mathematics as early as possible. Our first priority is to build a secure foundation in literacy and numeracy as the basis for all other learning. Pupils are taught to read, write and work with numbers fluently and confidently. Where pupils need extra support it is provided, to ensure that every child reaches and exceeds nationally expected standards.

We provide a rich curriculum, stimulating new interests and enhancing children's learning experiences. We invite professional artists, actors, writers and musicians into school and offer a range of trips and events to stimulate learning and broaden pupils’ interests and experience.

Specialisms

Ark academies have a special focus on mathematics and we invest in attracting and training the best teachers. Ark Oval Primary is developing a distinctive, world-leading maths curriculum based on the Singapore approach. Our aim is to ensure that every child achieves mastery of mathematics concepts, computational skills, problem solving and application of mathematics to daily life activities. Children learn drawing strategies to solve complex problems and build strong links between objects, pictures, and abstract numbers. We teach mathematics topics in depth, so children understand the “how” as well as the “why”.

Ofsted

Ark Oval Primary Academy was inspected by Ofsted in December 2012 and was graded as "good". Read the full report here.
