We are seeking to appoint an Assistant Head Pastoral within this academically selective and dynamic school. The successful candidate will be expected to assist the Deputy Head Pastoral in the management and strategic development of the pastoral care within the school, both boarding and day provision.

The successful candidate will have:

  • a proven track record of outstanding pastoral care
  • the ability to manage teams, and provide support and direction
  • an excellent understanding of the National Minimum Standards and their implementation
  • a proactive approach to the intellectual and personal development of the pupils
  • excellent IT, time management and administration skills
  • a flexible and 'can do' attitude.

Queen Anne's School is an independent boarding and day school for girls aged 11-18. Situated on a 35 acre campus just north of Reading, it has excellent road/rail links to Heathrow Airport, London and the south east.

Girls enter by means of the 11+, 12+ or 13+ Common Entrance or the school's own examination. Offers of Sixth Form places are made during the academic year in which GCSEs are taken. The offer is conditional upon the entrance examination. Several scholarships are available; all are awarded for excellence whether in academic work, art, music or sport.

Each weekend is packed with activities to cater for a variety of interests. There are many extra-curricular activities including Drama, Junior and Senior Choirs, Orchestra, Photography, Riding, Rowing, Gymnastics, Ballet, Engineering Club, Public Speaking, Pottery, Young Enterprise and many girls participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

Pastoral care is strong; each girl has the support and understanding of a Housemistress, experienced in looking after girls and young women, and her team of House staff who together provide full pastoral care on a day to day basis under the auspices of the Deputy Head, Pastoral. The large Sixth Form operates on a tutorial system and is more akin to university life. 100% of girls go on to Higher Education. There are 2 boarding Houses and 2 day Houses for 11-16 year olds; and the sixth form are accommodated in two separate Houses.

Facilities include a performing arts centre for drama and music, a well equipped IT department, a state of the art Sports Centre with fitness suite, dance and aerobics studio, and an indoor climbing wall. As well as the Sports Centre the facilities include tennis courts, squash courts, heated indoor swimming pool and gym. 

In the security of a single-sex environment, all opportunities for leadership and learning are open. With an excellent academic record and many extra-curricular activities, girls are fully prepared for university life and successful careers.
