Job overview

Classes are small, supported by two teaching assistants, and cater for pupils with a wide range of ability.

We are looking to appoint someone to lead 14 - 19 yr provision. To further develop the opportunities available in the 3 yr college provision and to work closely with the Key Stage 4 staff to ensure a smooth progression from school to 16 - 19 provision and a broad and balanced curriculum.

This is a real opportunity for the right forward-thinking candidate to become part of a growing team of staff helping to shape and support the future of Welburn Hall School.

You will:

  • Be fully conversant with the range of 16 - 19 curriculum and accreditation opportunities.
  • Have up to date knowledge of Key Stage 4 curriculum and accreditation opportunities to ensure smooth transition and progression.
  • Be an excellent classroom practitioner with experience of teaching pupils with SEN & D.
  • Effectively deploy and manage the work of teaching/support staff, financial and physical resources within the college unit.
  • Work in partnership with the residential staff to promote independence opportunities for students and devise appropriate PSHE targets.
  • Be responsible for leadership of the whole school in Careers Guidance and another specific, negotiated, curriculum area.
  • Work closely with the NYCC careers guidance adviser.
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be willing to lead improvement initiatives across the whole school.
  • Be a dynamic and creative teacher.
  • Provide our learners with rich learning experiences through which they can flourish and reach their full potential.
  • Be able to work collaboratively as part of the leadership team in order to secure whole school improvement.
  • Be able to lead the development of staff and act as a mentor
  • Be highly motivated, enthusiastic, energetic and enjoy new challenges
