Assistant Head Teacher, Upper School (KS4) wanted for an 'Outstanding' special School

TreeHouse School in North London provides a vibrant education for 85 children and young people aged 4 - 19 with a diagnosis of autism. Judged 'Outstanding' by Ofsted (October, 2012) we offer each pupil a personalised curriculum that includes the National Curriculum and vocational pathways delivered by a multi-professional team using teaching approaches underpinned by the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis.

We are seeking a creative teacher and inspirational leader to lead a multi-disciplinary team of qualified teachers, behaviour analysts and allied health professionals within our Upper School (currently consisting of 17 pupils in three Key Stage 4 classes) and to contribute to the leadership of the whole school as part of the TreeHouse Leadership Team.

We are looking for an outstanding teacher who:

  • Is an experienced and successful leader
  • Has experience of and enjoys working with children with SEN
  • Is passionate, ambitious and highly motivated to make a significant contribution to the leadership and management of the school
  • Has high expectations of our pupils learning and a commitment to providing education that improves life chances and makes the ordinary possible
  • Has knowledge or experience of ABA, or a willingness to learn how to apply this approach
  • Is particularly interested in working as part of a multidisciplinary team that includes SaLT, OT, ABA Consultants and Qualified Teachers.

TreeHouse School is a non-maintained special school that was founded in 1997. Based in the heart of a thriving community in north London, it educates autistic pupils aged three to 19 from across London and the Home Counties.

Using the Ambitious Approach to education, pupils receive specialist and personalised support through a dedicated transdisciplinary team of qualified teachers, speech therapists, occupational therapists and behaviour specialists.

Our curriculum is tailored to each pupil’s unique qualities, specific needs, and individual starting points. In this way, we can set accurate targets for progress.

In our individualised learning programmes, we assess each pupil extensively and consider their strengths and what they find more challenging. Our curriculum is creative and flexible, using our natural environment to extend pupils’ learning. You are as likely to see maths being practised in the shop, the community or the garden as you are in the classroom. Where appropriate, our curriculum is linked to and, where necessary, differentiated from the National Curriculum’s requirements.
