We are a school of choice in the North Hull community catering for 412 children and we are within commutable distance of Beverley, Selby, York and close to the M62 motorway. Ofsted in July 2016 judged us to be a ‘good school and praised the rapid improvement that has happened at our school since being placed in special measures in 2014.
Our children are at the heart of everything that we do here and you will be joining a school that is forward thinking, supportive and has a community that is hugely positive about our work.
There are 15 classes in the academy, 2 in foundation stage, 5 in Key Stage 1 and 8 in Key Stage 2. All Year 1 classes have a maximum of 20 pupils, all other classes have a maximum of 30 pupils. Children are placed in classes by age. The majority of our Year 6 pupils will transfer to Sirius North Academy, although some children have gone to St Marys, Newland School for Girls, Cottingham High, Kelvin Hall and other schools/academies.
There are 15 full-time teachers and 7 part-time teachers. They are well supported by teaching assistants, administration staff, building operations staff, cleaning staff and lunchtime staff.
Our Curriculum
We have a shared vision of the skills and qualities every pupil should have by the time they leave The Green Way Academy. We aim to achieve this by doing the following:
- To nurture independent, responsible, life-long learners equipped with creative thinking skills to enable them to respond to the challenges of the world they live in.
- To enable pupils to become confident individuals with a positive self-esteem, have a thirst for knowledge, and high expectations of themselves.
- To create a positive attitude to learning, by encouraging confident and caring relationships, which motivate and inspire them to do their best.
- To support pupils to become confident in making decisions, be able to take risks and persevere to allow them to challenge their learning and maximise their potential.
- To foster an environment of politeness and good manners in which each child is able to communicate and collaborate effectively.
- To celebrate their individuality and that of others, with a respect of all and the world we live in, and an understanding of their place in modern Britain and the World.
- This is summarised by our wish for all to have a ‘Love of Life and Learning'
This year, to celebrate Hull being City of Culture, we have designed a programme of study that celebrates Hull’s rich history and takes the children on a journey of exploration. Within each phase, the children will discover Hull’s secrets and what makes Hull so special. We have linked up with Heritage Learning and Hull City of Culture to provide our children with some of the best opportunities we can.
