Assistant Principal, Kent 

North West Kent College is recruiting for an Assistant Principal (Teaching and Learning) to work on a full time basis. This role will be based at one of the College's main campuses, but the nature of the work will require travel to any of the College sites as required.

Specific responsibilities of this role include but are not exclusive to:

  • Assist Curriculum Departments with implementing best practices in teaching methods and curriculum design for all subject areas.
  • Work with Directors of Curriculum and Curriculum Managers to ensure curriculum alignment with assessment and standards and that programs are implemented with robust rigour.
  • Advocate, support, and provide, as required, network-wide professional development to all teaching staff in order to develop good practice links.
  • Lead on major curriculum development initiatives by supporting Curriculum Departments in writing new programmes/modules/units.
  • Lead on the college OFSTED relationship.
  • Work with Directors and the HR Director in identifying, interviewing teaching staff to enable a consistent approach to recruiting the best people.
  • Evaluate existing curricular programmes and recommend and implement improvements where needed. Work with key staff to deliver training modules on curriculum design, implementation, assessment and verification.
  • Take responsibility for writing the college Self Assessment Report (SAR); bringing together evidence from each curriculum department and analysing the results.
  • Track and monitor the course review process by working with the Curriculum Managers to ensure compliance.
  • Report to the Deputy Principal any shortfalls in compliance with college processes and systems by curriculum departments which affect teaching and learning and ultimately achievement.
  • Line manage the English and Maths Manager and monitor the assessment, tracking and teaching of students taking GCSE and Functional Skills; monitor the quality of delivery of functional skills in each area to ensure a consistently high quality whether the delivery is integrated or discrete.
  • Line manage the Learning Technologies Manager to ensure that this forms a part of developing teaching and learning in the classroom through e-technologies.
  • To Line manage the Student Support Manager and Student Experience Manager to ensure all students receive accurate advice and guidance before and during their time with the College and that the experience they have at College is enjoyable, supportive and beneficial.
  • To line manage the teaching and learning team and develop an in-house approach to lesson observations and the monitoring and moderating thereof.
