We are looking for an innovative and enthusiastic leader for our English department who will inspire both our staff and students. The role will enable them to work alongside the Subject Leader to further develop the effective learning of English and promotion of Literacy across the full age and ability range at Caldew School.

We have a strong team of English professionals and the department is well-resourced. The Subject Leader is a Specialist Leader of Education and there are two additional Lead Practitioners within the team. This is an ideal opening for an experienced and committed teacher to take on a substantial leadership role within the department, build on the strategies already in place but also introduce new ideas to ensure all our students achieve their full potential in this curriculum area.

About Caldew School

Caldew School is a popular, rural 11-18 mixed comprehensive school situated south of the city of Carlisle with a catchment area that extends to the fringe of the Lake District. We have 1000 pupils on roll including Sixth Form.

We have a good and improving track record of achievement at all examination levels, good resources and facilities and a rich programme of visits and extra-curricular activities.

Our Ofsted inspection in June 2022 graded Caldew as ‘good. However, we are not complacent and we know that there are areas where we need to do better.
