Careers & Student Progression Advisor, Brighton and Hove

Fixed Term until September 2014.

We are seeking an experienced Careers advisor to support the development of the all age student careers and progression services for potential and existing students at City College.

You will have experience of delivering impartial careers advice services to a range of people and you will have a strong understanding of the barriers people face when accessing learning and work. You will have a recognised level 4 (or above) advice or career guidance qualification and be willing to undertake the new National Careers Service qualifications as required. A commitment to widening participation is essential, as well as confidence in liaising and building positive relationships with relevant external partners.

The successful candidate will also be able to demonstrate a proven track record of working to and meeting agreed delivery targets.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Experience of delivering careers and skills advice services which support student progression.
  • A recognised level 4 or above Advice or Career Guidance or CEG qualification. (e.g. NVQ 4 in Guidance, Dip CG part one) and be willing to undertake the National Careers Service qualifications as required.

  • Experience of successfully forming effective working relationships with a wide range of people and organisations.
  • A proven track record of successfully working to deadlines and targets and working within set quality standards.
  • A good knowledge of occupational, career, learning and other pathway opportunities both locally and nationally.
  • Experience of networking and negotiating on behalf of clients.
  • Excellent listening and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and to motivate self
  • A good knowledge and commitment to Equality of Opportunity and Safeguarding
  • Excellent IT and administrative skills.
  • A good understanding of using social and electronic media to support the delivery of careers advice services
  • Flexibility in working hours including evenings and weekends
  • Flexibility in working at each of the College venues
  • Ability to drive, clean driving licence and/or access to transport

Desirable:

  • Delivering National Careers Service advice sessions
  • Level 6 Advice or Career Guidance or CEG qualification
  • Teaching experience.
