Stoneyhill Primary School was built in 1996 and is a non-denominational primary school situated at the west end of Musselburgh. The school caters for children from ages 3 to 12. At the time of writing, August 2014, there are eight classes P1-P7 in school, with a total roll of 235. The school nursery caters for 3 and 4 year olds with 30 children attending the morning session and 30 in the afternoon.

Set within a pleasing landscaped area, the main school is of an extremely attractive, semi-open plan design. Eight class bays open onto a central multi-purpose group activity area. A recently added extension comprises of 4 closed classrooms, a purpose built nursery, Support for Learning room, resource room, offices, medical room and sports hall. The school is accessible to those with physical disabilities. The school also has a modern kitchen, which enables the pupils to have a packed lunch or a cafeteria hot meal of the day.

There are attractive grounds around the school with a garden.

Closed circuit television and an effective intruder alarm system protect the school.

Purpose of the Job

  • To undertake class-teaching duties.

To provide support to staff and pupils to identify and address additional support needs, through a range of assessment and intervention strategies, within the five roles of Support for Learning:

  • Co-operative teaching
  • Consultancy
  • Teaching individuals and groups
  • Providing specialist services
  • Staff development and training

Major Tasks

  • To work co-operatively with the class teachers to identify and address additional support needs through staged assessment and intervention.
  • To teach individuals and groups with associated preparation and planning
  • To promote a range of methodologies for effective teaching and learning.
  • To advise teachers on suitable curricula for pupils with additional support needs.
  • To contribute to the planning for individual learners through Individualised Educational Programmes and Co-ordinated Support Plans.
  • To advise and support teachers in the use of appropriate resources to support learners' needs including ICT, sensory, mobility and communication aids

To liaise with the following to provide effective support for individual learners

  • pupils
  • parents/carers
  • school management
  • class teachers
  • support staff
  • other authority staff
  • other agencies

-To support the transition process for pupils with additional support needs.

-To provide training and information to staff on issues relevant to additional support needs.

-To undertake appropriate and agreed continuing professional development.

-To undertake any other duties relevant to the role of Support for Learning teacher.

Job Requirements
Relevant Qualifications

  • Appropriate primary qualification
  • For Permanent Posts: Full GTCS Registration is required.
  • For Temporary Posts: Full/Provisional GTCS Registration is required
