Branston Community Academy transferred to Academy status as an ‘outstanding’ school in December 2010. It has a high reputation in the area for both examination results, friendliness and community links. The Academy is also known for its good relationships between students and staff, combined with a strong sense of order and discipline. The September 2007 overall rating of ‘outstanding’ was reaffirmed in 2011.
The Academy is situated in the village of Branston some four miles from the centre of Lincoln. Students attend the Academy from a widespread area including several villages. The student intake is therefore of a good social mix, but predominantly rural.
We are an 11-18 all ability school of around 1100 students which includes a successful Sixth Form. The Academy was one of the first schools selected for designation as a Specialist Business & Enterprise school from September 2002. We acquired a second specialism in Applied Learning in April 2008.
The professional development of all Academy staff has a high priority. We encourage all staff appointed to pursue high professional standards, showing commitment to, and therefore gaining satisfaction and a sense of pride, from their work.
The Academy includes a Sports Complex with Sports Hall, Swimming Pool and Youth Centre. The Academy library is integrated with the local County Public Library branch on our site. The Academy has invested heavily in wireless technology and the new technologies. The Academy runs its own day nursery on site which is fully registered for Early Years Education Grant and is open to members of the community as well as members of staff. The Academy site is used in the evenings and weekends for community groups, Youth Centre activities and community swimming classes.
