Transforming lives through learning...

It's exciting times at Wakefield College.  Against the background of a recent good Ofsted outcome, solid recruitment over the last two years, investment in student support structures and in the physical environment in which learning takes place, the Principalship Team has a strong vision to see the College achieve 'Outstanding' across the range of its core curriculum within the next two years and for this to be recognised at the next inspection.

Such a goal requires further investment in management capacity and so we are looking to strengthen the college senior leadership and middle management tiers.

  • Line management and operational responsibility as agreed with the Head of Curriculum in relation to targets for funding/budgets/staff performance/Engagement etc.

Having successfully taught on relevant programmes within a construction curriculum area and with a proven track record in improving the learner experience, you should be able to demonstrate:

  • Significant staff, curriculum and course management experience gained in an FE College, coupled with a PGCE /Teaching and recognised Level 5 Management qualification (or willingness to achieve in 2 years)
  • The confidence and know-how to plan schedules and timetable activities in a complex environment, along with a practical grasp of budgeting and solid management skills
  • A passion for continuous improvement and high performance in order to achieve    positive learner outcomes and an excellent student experience
  • The ability and knowledge to make accurate judgements about the quality of teaching, learning and assessments

The Wakefield District
Wakefield offers a rare combination of heritage, countryside, entertainment, culture, shopping and sport. Whatever your interests, we hope you will want to explore the District and its many amenities.

For art lovers, there is the City Art Gallery and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, one of the world’s leading open-air galleries where a changing programme of international sculpture can be seen in the setting of a magnificent country park. Recent improvements to the Park include an underground gallery, visitor centre, shop and large restaurant - all the ingredients for a great day out. In 2011 the Hepworth gallery opened on Wakefield’s regenerated waterfront and presents a major collection of twentieth-century British artworks, with a collection of sculptures by locally-born Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore as its centrepiece.
