We are looking to recruit a Deputy Head of School Animal Care and Saddlery, based at Enfield.

About the College

Capel Manor College in Greater London, is a vocational college delivering courses in Arboriculture and Countryside, Animal Care and Saddlery, Floristry and Balloon Artistry, Garden Design and Horticulture.

Key Duties:

  • To manage and develop Animal Care and Saddlery Curriculum at Enfield in line with the wider objectives for the School as agreed with the Head of School. Ensuring programmes run smoothly with well planned co-ordination between delivery staff, verifiers, employers and students. Ensuring all relevant paperwork/records are completed from registration and sign ups of students through to tracking of achievement and claiming of results.
  • Teach on courses for at least 561 hours per academic year, act as a Course Manager as agreed with the Head of School and support other Course Managers in delivery of their responsibilities.
  • Supervise and manage all staff and self in the specific area ensuring compliance with relevant college procedures (including Health & Safety and Equality & Diversity).
  • Set SMART targets for all staff to ensure effective performance management, monitor performance against these targets and take appropriate action to ensure both recognition and action is given/taken as required.
  • To monitor and formally review the curriculum, to ensure its delivery, including coordination and review of the end of course reviews of on-programme reviews and to make recommendations for change.

Essential Criteria:

  • Teaching qualification (PGCE or DTTLS).
  • Relevant Level 4 vocational qualification or equivalent.
  • Level 2 literacy and numeracy.
  • A proven record of delivering teaching and learning to a consistently high standard which demonstrates a commitment to ensuring quality of provision, including tutorial support and excellent performance at attracting and retaining 16-18 year olds and ensuring they achieve full qualifications.
  • Experience of working in or with the Animal Care industry.
  • Experience of Further Education curriculum delivery planning and administration.
  • Working knowledge of the curriculum specialisms offered in the section and offered by the College and be conversant with Functional Skills/Key Skills applicable to the curriculum area.
  • Up to date knowledge of curriculum, teaching and learning, managing challanging learner behaviour proven through experience and continuing professional development.
  • An enthusiasm to devise and deliver programmes which attract students into Animal Care.
