The St Marylebone CE School is a very successful, oversubscribed Church of England girls' school with a mixed sixth form, serving students of all faiths or no faith.

We will be enhancing the excellent leadership of our school with the appointment of an outstanding Deputy Headteacher.

We are seeking to appoint a confident and experienced candidate with strong leadership and management skills, presence and drive, to join our Senior Leadership Team in January 2015.

The successful candidate will have:

  • a passion for learning and demonstrable commitment to the the academic, personal and spiritual development of young people;
  • the ability to lead, inspire and develop colleagues and students;
  • exceptional interpersonal, communication and organisational skills;
  • excellent teaching skills and a keen insight into what makes high quality teaching and learning;
  • successful leadership experience, including school self-improvement;
  • the ability to operate at a strategic level including effective use of data, assessment, school self-evaluation and performance measures;
  • a keen interest in and knowledge of curriculum, curriculum change and assessment and the opportunities and challenges this presents to a high-performing mainstream secondary school.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • sustaining and developing the richness and relevance of the curriculum at KS3, 4, 5;
  • strategic leadership of curriculum change while maintaining the dynamic and spiritual learning ethos of the School;
  • strategic leadership of examinations, assessment and data;
  • timetabling and effective staff deployment;
  • line-management of key departments and strategic areas of school operation;
  • upholding the Christian values of the School;
  • performing all duties of Deputy Headship required to pursue excellence.

The successful applicant will be required to apply for an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

The St Marylebone CE School is an all-girls secondary with co-educational sixth form in Westminster, central London. It is affiliated with the Church of England and designated a National Teaching School. Since 2011, St Marylebone has had academy status.

The St Marylebone CE School welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds, races, cultures, faiths and genders.   The School actively promotes diversity and inclusion across its community and our students come from a wide range of backgrounds: 40% of our students speak English as an additional language; 59% of our students come from backgrounds other than white British.

The secondary school is located next to St Marylebone Parish Church and is a short walk from Regent’s Park. The sixth-form facilities are based in nearby Blandford Street. St Marylebone was founded in 1791 and it carries the motto "An opportunity to excel". There are currently around 1,100 students, 300 of whom are in the sixth form.

St Marylebone CE School supports students to perform to the highest level in terms of commitment, effort and behaviour. It has embraced the religious and spiritual values of being a church school, as well as establishing a welcoming multi-faith community.

Students are encouraged to think critically, approaching issues with confidence both as individuals and cooperative members of a team. Teachers use the skills instilled in students to create a cohesive community setting, in which communication and respect are key.

The school has been a specialist arts college since 1998. It has since become a specialist school in mathematics and computing, and in special educational needs. This level of expertise has ensured St Marylebone is a model academic setting.
