Job overview

The Governing Body are seeking to appoint a second Deputy Head to join the leadership team of our school.  This is a superb opportunity for a talented and energetic school leader with a proven track record, to work alongside the newly appointed Headteacher - and a recently restructured, dynamic leadership team - who are all focused on taking Wollaston forward to become the school of choice in East Northants.  This post will offer an excellent grounding for someone with clear ambition and potential to become a Headteacher.

We are a large, rural community school located in a village setting a few miles east of Northampton, with around 1400 total students on roll - of whom 230 students are in the sixth form.  Results have been good across the school over several years at both GCSE and A-level, with approximately one hundred of our students progressing on to study at University each year (our school was deemed 'Good' during the last Ofsted visit, Spring 2013).  Resources across the school are excellent: with several recently refurbished teaching blocks and a new dining area, and a brand new £1million science block which excitingly opens next month.

Key responsibilities include:

  • To be able to identify, promote and implement new strategies and technologies in curriculum design and delivery, in order to improve teaching and learning across the school;
  • To take the lead on whole school assessment in order to support student progress at Key Stages 3 & 4;
  • To take overall responsibility for school leadership and management at Key Stage 3;
  • Have the ability to support in the development of an outstanding climate for learning across the school, in order to drive sustained whole school improvement.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be an inspirational teacher who consistently demonstrates outstanding classroom practice and results, able to inspire and promote the highest expectations from school colleagues;
  • Be able to demonstrate a holistic understanding of the wider school curriculum and a good knowledge of the educational issues currently influencing curriculum change in schools;
  • Confidently manage a large diverse workload in order to lead sustained whole school improvement, and be able to make a sustained, wider contribution to the school.

Closing date:  Wednesday 8th October 2014
Interviews will be held during w/c 13th October 2014
