Job overview

Be more than just a Deputy Headteacher for more than just a Special School.

I CAN's Meath Primary School is a unique, nurturing, specialised learning community. Recognised by Ofsted as Outstanding since 2008, we are one of just a handful of schools in the UK focusing purely on primary aged children with speech, language and communication needs, including Asperger's Syndrome. We have created an environment where children achieve remarkable progress in their speaking, listening and understanding, and where their confidence, independence and self-esteem constantly grow. You will take us to the next level.

Championing our vision and mission, you will regularly deputise for the Principal and constantly deliver high quality leadership to ensure a cutting-edge education. At the same time, you will drive the provision of outreach, marketing and training activity and forge close partnerships with education departments and other stakeholders, whilst actively shaping our strategic direction.

In short, this is a key appointment for the school, so we're looking for the very best. You will require everything it takes to build on our position as a centre of excellence in primary SLCN provision, demanding an impressive and extensive record as a teacher.

You will possess substantial experience of exposure to primary SLCN pupils, an ability to demonstrate success as a team and curriculum, leader. You will possess a solid understanding of data analysis in relation to special education needs learners.

You will have extensive key stage one and key stage two exposure and the ability to demonstrate Outstanding teaching to bright pupils. You will possess an acute awareness of SLCN needs and how this can impact on pupils thinking and learning.

Leading annual reviews and transition planning should be second nature to you, and you will be a skilled mentor, inspiring classroom practitioner and highly creative thinker.

Finally, you should be fully versed in the latest educational thinking, fully aware of SLCN, Asperger's and sensory needs, and capable of getting the most from pupils with associated behavioural difficulties.
