Job overview

Deputy Principal, Westminster

A Deputy Principal with leadership experience is sought for this new and improving academy. Churchill Gardens is a single form entry school, based in South Westminster. It is part of Future Academies, a small family of local schools including the Outstanding schools, Pimlico Academy and Millbank Academy. The school also has specialist speech and language provision, currently arranged in four small classes across the school's age range.

The achievement of our pupils is rising but we are ambitious for rapid and sustained improvement, so we seek an exceptional candidate to assist us in attaining true excellence in all areas of school life. Attainment in Mathematics and English is our immediate priority, but we believe that all children deserve to be exposed to 'the best that has been thought and known' and we are committed to enhancing our pupils' literacy as well as their cultural literacy through a subject-specific curriculum. Expertise in and passion for a particular subject would be an advantage, as the DP will be required both to teach and to lead continued development of the teaching of others.

Churchill Garden's leadership team are expected to be outstanding teachers and efficient managers, modelling best practice in all areas of teaching and learning. In addition, leaders must possess a deep understanding of how to improve achievement by working directly with teaching staff, and being sharply focussed on tracking and monitoring.

The candidate will report to Diane George, Acting Principal.

The candidate will have a teaching load at the start of the appointment of approximately 50%.

About Churchill Gardens Primary Academy

Our first year of being an academy is an exciting time for Churchill Gardens. We enjoy a friendly, small school atmosphere within the structure of a larger organisation, Future Academies, which brings many benefits. Already we have seen improvements to our timetable and our curriculum, as well as new opportunities for children outside the school day.

The warm atmosphere of Churchill Gardens ensures that each child is valued and cared for as an individual.  This creates a happy environment in which children are well motivated and keen to learn. We strive for academic excellence, whilst nurturing the talents and abilities of each individual.  We encourage excellence in everything and reward and celebrate excellence in anything.

We understand that children learn by example and respond positively to encouragement and praise.  As staff, we know that we are role models for children so we stand firmly by traditional expectations through exemplifying kindness, care and good manners and we see this reflected in the children.  Pupils at Churchill Gardens are expected to be thoughtful and considerate; distinctly aware of and sensitive to the needs of others.

We also expect the children to ‘have a go’ and to do their best, in order that they grow in resilience and perseverance. There is an insistence on participation across the school because we want the children to feel happy and confident about taking part in new and exciting challenges, so that they appreciate their own strengths and abilities as well as the strengths and abilities of others
