Job overview

Due to retirement of the present post holder we are looking to recruit an experienced professional from the private or public sector with financial expertise to join a dynamic and high-performing leadership team.

With an outstanding record of inspiring and challenging staff to innovate and improve, you will be able to demonstrate excellent analytical and inter-personal skills, ensuring the best possible use of our financial, physical and human resources. An understanding of the education or academy sector is advantageous but not essential.

You will be joining a supportive, committed and passionate team who work hard to ensure that all our students receive a broad education and achieve their potential. You will contribute to the development of teaching and learning whilst ensuring that decisions are based on sound judgement and financial reality.

The successful candidate will have a 'can do' attitude and grab opportunities that are consistent with the school's long term strategic plans. He/she will:

  • be educated to degree level with relevant business management and/or accounting qualifications;
  • have experience of managing a range of teams and responsibilities;
  • understand there will "never be enough hours in the day" and priorities will need to be set;
  • think strategically and be able to plan, lead and organise change within the school; and
  • be proactive and enhance the school's reputation by sharing experience and good practice with other schools and institutions.

Hinchley Wood became an academy trust with charitable status in 2012, and is primarily funded by the Department for Education. The school is high achieving and heavily oversubscribed with 1,276 students aged 11 - 18 years, including a rapidly expanding sixth form. An Ofsted inspection in September 2011 judged the school to be "outstanding" stating that "students work exceptionally well together in this harmonious and cohesive community, and achieve outstanding outcomes".

It is a very exciting time for the school with many possible options for the future. Not all can be taken at the same time and the new post holder will play an integral role in ensuring the agreed direction is consistent with our vision.

Hinchley Wood School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The position advertised is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check.

Closing date: Friday 3 October 2014 (noon)
