The Post
Kellett School is seeking an experienced Director of Music to lead a thriving and enthusiastic team.
The successful candidate is required to maintain the school's tradition of an inclusive programme that nurtures students of all musical abilities.
The Arts in general, and music in particular, lie at the heart of our thriving community; currently over 40% of students are involved in the Extra-Curricular Music Programme including choirs, orchestras, bands, peripatetic instrumental lessons, concerts, musical productions and ensembles. The department is an important public interface between the school and wider community, both locally and increasingly internationally.
The successful candidate is expected to build upon the existing vision in order to promote and develop both the department's academic and performance reputation further.
This post offers an exciting opportunity for a colleague who has successfully led, or held a senior position, in a thriving and successful Music Department within a high performing British School in an international, independent or state environment.
It is essential that the successful applicant has excellent knowledge and understanding of IGCSE/GCSE and A Level programmes; as too is a working knowledge of the English National Curriculum. Experience of 4-18 education is desirable but not essential.
The successful applicant is required to illustrate personal excellence within their subject; the ability to lead the school's choral programme (including piano accompaniment) to UK National standards is desirable.
Of equal of importance is proven leadership and communication skills across the department in order to work effectively with colleagues, students and parents; as is the ability to communicate with and inspire the community as a whole. Technology is used extensively throughout the school; the successful applicant will be proficient in its use and apply the benefits it brings to enhance student learning within their department.
The Director of Music works closely with the ECA Music Co-ordinator who manages a team of peripatetic teachers. Jointly they run a diverse programme of both formal and informal performances, concerts, productions and overseas events. The Annual Concert is considered a highlight of the school year.
Strong links exists regionally with the Federation of British International Schools in Asia (FOBISIA); international links are in their infancy and are poised for future development.

Kellett is a through train school with campuses in Pok Fu Lam on Hong Kong Island and in Kowloon Bay. The Pok Fu Lam campus is a Preparatory School (for ages 4-11 years old) in Wah Fu at the foot of Mount Kellett and overlooking Kellett Bay, while the Kowloon Bay campus houses a Preparatory and Senior School for students from 4 -18 years old.
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage and English National Curriculum, which includes GCSEs, IGCSEs and A levels.
