Job overview

Director of Personal Development, London

The start date for this role would be August 2014, with ELAM looking to engage with the appointed candidate prior to this.

ELAM is the new industry academy for 16-19 year olds. We are focused on developing the next generation of young creative and business talent; providing real recognition, professional skills and the opportunities that they will need to better the creative industries of tomorrow.

The successful candidate will join ELAM in August 2014 as part of the Senior Leadership Team and be instrumental in the development and implementation of ELAM?s Vision. Specifically, they will ensure that ELAM?s Programmes offer each Trainee a personalised learning experience that is deeply rooted in ELAM?s Values.

A strategic voice within the Senior Leadership Team, this person will see that individualised learning and the development of core skills are consistently prioritised at the academy. Central to this will be their oversight of the Person strand of the Programmes as well as their direct work with Trainees and staff as SENCO.

ELAM?s two strands, Expertise and Person, run in parallel through the Music and the Digital Arts Programmes. Expertise focuses on the development of technical skills, whilst Person develops core skills around Mathematics, English, Enterprise and ELAM?s Values. ELAM?s Director of Personal Development will take overall responsibility for Person and its constituent Units: English, Mathematics, Enterprise, Mentoring, Transition and Work Placements. As part of this they will pick up line management responsibility for our Subject Leaders in Mathematics and English, and eventually in Enterprise as this strand grows to meet the needs of 300 Trainees by 2016.

They will also drive the implementation of outstanding SEN practice at every level of the school, and see that the learning experience of each Trainee is personalised and appropriate to their needs at all times. Supporting the whole staff team to deliver consistent and effective support across ELAM will underpin this, as well as direct work with ELAM?s Trainees to assess needs and design interventions.

To apply for this role please send a covering letter and CV to careers@elam.co.uk

Closing date: Monday 28th April
Interviews will be held in week commencing 5th May

Prospective applicants are able to attend an Open House with ELAM?s Principal, Charlie Kennard, on 16th, 22nd or 24th April between 5pm ? 8pm at Rich Mix, 35-47 Bethnal Green Road, E1 6LA.
