Job overview

Director of Sport (Head of PE Faculty) in the Netherlands

There are few things which are likely to have more impact on a young person's future than the quality of the school they attend. So we work hard to ensure that everyone who sends their child to the BSN is happy with that choice.

It is our belief that every child deserves the very best start in life and we make it our purpose to provide just that to all the children who enter our doors. We endeavour to provide the best possible teaching and curriculum; we want every child to make progress and achieve the very best they can; but most of all we want the children at the BSN to be happy and enjoy their life with us.

Established back in 1931 The British School in The Netherlands has a tradition of quality. The school was founded on the principles of developing and challenging the whole individual - 'head, hand & heart' - producing students with high aspirations and confident independence. We pride ourselves on the fostering of strong values: mutual understanding, respect for others and high personal endeavour form part of our students' everyday lives. Being part of the BSN is about more than school work though. We try to offer our students a treasure chest of worthwhile and exciting experiences which they can carry with them for the rest of their lives.

The British School in The Netherlands is looking to appoint a Director of Sport (Head of PE Faculty.)

The PE Faculty is well resourced, with excellent facilities and benefits from a varied programme of compulsory curricular PE and Sport, including most National Curriculum areas. The school's achievements in competitive sport are well respected in the international community, largely a reflection of successes in the "Sport Member" category of International School Sports Tournaments (ISST). There are regular triumphs in this competition, in a range of sports such as hockey, football, swimming and rugby. Students are both enthusiastic and committed, especially with regards to the competitive programme.

Academic PE is currently offered in Year 13, as part of the A Level programme, and in Year 11, as a GCSE option.

The successful candidate will be a strong leader who will;

  • promote a school wide culture of Health, Fitness and Wellbeing
  • review and evaluate current programmes to ensure they feature both participation and performance components, as well as establishing an aspirational pathway
  • ensure the delivery of an exciting programme of teaching and learning through the design of the PE and Games curriculum
  • ensure recreational, developmental and competitive activity is a feature of the programme for each sport.
  • lead on developing academic PE, at both A Level and GCSE, as a strong option choice for students
  • be a visible presence and represent the school at a variety of sporting fixtures.
  • quality control the extra-curricular provision across all areas of sporting endeavour

Further information on the faculty will be available to short listed candidates if requested.
