The English Language Academy (ELA) is part of the University of Auckland and provides high quality, specialised English language programmes and teacher training for international students, overseas Universities and scholarship providers.

The ELA is managed through Auckland UniServices Limited which is the largest research and development company in Australasia and is wholly owned by the University of Auckland. UniServices works with governments and organisations across the globe. It employs 700 people and has revenue in excess of $130 million per annum. The ELA is a sizeable contributor to UniServices overall revenue and has sound strategies in place to continue this positive growth and development.

The Director of the English Language Academy role is an exciting senior role. Combining English Language expertise, management and an Auckland location, this role surpasses all others available and is striding towards the pinnacle of an education/management career in NZ.

In this leadership role, the Director will have responsibility for the operational performance of the ELA, strategic planning, business development, growth and people management. This also includes overall responsibility for the financial performance of the ELA.

Reporting directly to the General Manager International, you will be leading your own senior management team in the five key areas of the business (Academic, Curriculum, Marketing, Business Systems, and Operations).

You will have the personality, drive and knowledge to intuitively develop and maintain key relationships with international clients and the various associated organisations both within the University of Auckland and externally.

There is a significant component relating to Business Development as the ELA looks to implement new strategies designed to exponentially grow the business. As Director of the ELA there is immeasurable scope for you to leverage off this notable brand and develop a marketing plan to drive international growth.

You will be commercially savvy with an understanding and experience in financial and risk management. You will play an integral part in budget preparation, monitoring targets and trend analysis.

  • An undergraduate degree or teaching qualification
  • Significant experience in the English as a Second Language sector
  • Proven leadership
  • Strengths in international relationship management
  • Successful experience in business development
  • Strong financial acumen
  • International experience
  • Cultural awareness and in particular areas that the ELA targets for students

In addition, qualifications in Linguistics or English Language teaching and postgraduate in business would be desirable but not essential for this position. This position offers a very attractive base salary plus extra performance based incentives. You will enjoy international travel as part of this package.
