Job overview

Applications are invited for the full-time role of Domestic Bursar at St Edmund Hall, Oxford.

The Domestic Bursar is responsible for the delivery of the facilities and domestic services of the College to its Fellows, students, staff and visitors, in support of its core academic purpose. He or she is also responsible for maximising opportunities to generate income from the College's facilities and services, as far as is possible without impeding the academic activities of the College.

Crucial to fulfilling these responsibilities is a combination of strategic planning, effective execution, and a well-judged collaborative approach - all underpinned by the need to achieve results.

The post has overall responsibility for delivering a number of functions and services on behalf of the College, including accommodation, conferences and events, day-to-day estates management, catering, information technology and other systems, housekeeping, and security. The post-holder will work closely with these departments to ensure the adoption of cost-effective, co-ordinated strategies to maximise the efficient use of the College's resources and optimise the provision of its services.

The College is seeking a manager who possesses advanced strategic and operational experience in the service sector, with both a creative and a practical approach to management. The ability to establish relationships with individuals at all levels, both within and outside the College environment, is essential, as is a proven record of delivering results. The remit of this post is varied and intensive, requiring a demonstrable ability to manage and bring judgement to a large number of complex and diverse problems, the solutions to which may often conflict. However, this makes for an interesting, rewarding and stimulating experience that provides the opportunity to drive improvements and deliver excellence, in a world-class yet friendly educational institution.

Informal discussions are welcomed by the Principal (Professor Keith Gull, CBE, FRS, FMedSci) or the Senior & Finance Bursar (Mr Simon Costa), who may be contacted by email at keith.gull@seh.ox.ac.uk or simon.costa@seh.ox.ac.uk, respectively.

The full Job Description and Further Particulars may be found at www.seh.ox.ac.uk/vacancy/domestic-bursar, or contact the Principal's PA, Ms Gillian Powell, at 01865-279003 or gillian.powell@seh.ox.ac.uk.

The closing date for applications is 5:00pm (UK time) on 5 August, 2014.
The interview process is likely to be held during the week of 18 August, 2014, at the College.
