Job overview

Location: Cambridge Assessment

Cambridge International Examinations is part of the Cambridge Assessment Group, a department of the University of Cambridge. We prepare school students for life, helping them develop an informed curiosity and a lasting passion for learning. Every year, nearly a million Cambridge learners from 10 000 schools in 160 countries prepare for their future with an international education from Cambridge. We also work with ministries and other agencies on major education reform projects, designing and developing curriculum and assessment materials for particular needs and contexts while meeting international standards.

We are looking for someone to contribute to and manage high level ministry contracts managed by the Ministry Relationships Team

Managing the contractual relationships of Cambridge's ministry partnerships is important to the education of millions of children in the state school sector in those countries, to the professional development of their curriculum, assessment and teaching staff, to the educational reputation and income of Cambridge International Examinations in the region of Sub-Saharan Africa.

The post holder will be in a position to positively influence the education systems of those countries, to build capacity of the national examination boards, and to gather important information and skills from the region to contribute to the strategic development of Cambridge International Examinations.

The job requires, in countries where there is an existing government contract, active management of Cambridge's relationships with Heads of Exam Boards, overseeing and coordinating Cambridge activity in the delivery of products and services (representing contracts of the value of £250K - £1.8 million), including the effective management of the required Annual Reviews, and carrying quality assurance and risk management procedures. It also involves accurate planning and management of the contract budgets.

Establishing and maintaining high-level relationships in the region (e.g. Directors of Exam Boards, Ministers and Permanent Secretaries of Education) is of paramount importance to enable the effective positioning of Cambridge curriculum, qualifications and services for pupils, teachers and assessment staff at this level and to identify new education reform and assessment development opportunities.

The job is complex in that, in order to deliver the strategic plan, resources from across Cambridge and from external sources must be brought into play. Effective collaboration with colleagues across the Cambridge Assessment Group in Cambridge and in the relevant region is essential in order to develop a good working relationship to meet all the clients' needs. It also means being adequately informed and sensitive to local conditions in order to avoid creating any adverse publicity, which could be damaging to the partners' and to Cambridge's reputation.

The scope of the job is broad both in terms of outreach and the range of services on offer. It requires the ability to understand and analyse complex products and procedures -maintaining the strategic overview, whilst analysing and understanding the detail involved.

You will be educated to degree level, or equivalent, with a further qualification in Education or a related discipline. You will have experience in the following areas: working in school education; international education; educational assessment; educational contract management; financial management.

The closing date for receipt of applications is the 23 October 2014.
