About this Job

Putting the child at the centre of everything we do

Here in Barking & Dagenham we have been very pro-active in delivering a thorough implementation of the requirements of Children and Families Act to create a new Education, Health and Care (EHC) Team. We really are ahead of the game and are very excited about putting the child at the centre of all we do.

The team will be the main point of contact for service users, including families and schools, ensuring their full involvement in meetings throughout assessments and development of EHC Plans. With good commitment from partners, a Joint Commissioner in place, an extensive training programme for schools and partners and a new EHC panel up and running, we are very excited about the outcomes we can deliver.

The creation of the new team has resulted in a number of exciting opportunities and we welcome your interest if you have experience of SEN working in Local Authorities, or, schools, or alternatively, Social Care and Health, and are committed to the provision of the highest standards of service to children, young people and their families. A new person centred approach to the assessment process will provide successful applicants with the opportunity to make a significant difference to the lives of families in Barking & Dagenham.

The Post

Reporting to the Group Manager (Disabled Children's Team and Education Health Care Team), you will take a strategic lead on EHC, and manage staff responsible for EHC Needs Assessments and writing of EHC Plans. You will also oversee the conversion of Statements of SEN into EHC Plans and work related to mediation. You will be required to represent the Local Authority at a range of meetings and will require excellent communication skills.

The Person

Do you have substantial experience of working across a Children?s Service, in schools, or a Health environment, with ideally responsibility for management of SEN and Disabilities?

Do you demonstrate good leadership qualities and commitment to great customer service, to bring out the best in others around you and deliver the best possible outcomes?

If so, and you are up for the challenges and rewards that come from delivering dedicated people centered services, focusing on quality outcomes, we welcome your application.
