The Havering School Improvement Services (Hsis) provides challenge and support to Havering's settings, schools and academies in both the primary and secondary sectors. The service has a quality assurance function for all schools and academies and also provides a strong and popular traded service in a wide range of school improvement areas.

The key responsibilities for this post are:

  • to support the implementation of the Early Years Foundation Stage within full day care, pre-school, childminder and out of school settings to promote the highest possible standards for care and education
  • Undertake targeted support meetings with Head teachers, private business owners and independent organisations to ensure improvements across the foundation stage.
  • Ensure a professional local knowledge of needs within settings and assist in setting out plans for improvement and delivery by ensuring robust tracking, intervention and analysis using data to inform key decisions
  • Use professional discretion on complex issues following contact visits ensuring any issues are dealt with in a sensitive and confidential manner to ensure the Local Authority meets its duties and is not open to challenge
  • Monitor the action plans of early year's schools and settings and take action, in conjunction with legal advisers, if improvements are not being met
  • Write, implement and deliver training to a range of individuals including schools, early year's settings, health and social care professionals
  • To assist in developing and co-ordinating across the SPC, QA & AEN Teams a consolidated vision for the Early Years Services, and new ways of working, systems and processes
  • To deputise for the Senior Education Adviser (Early Years) as appropriate

You will have:

  • Experience of working with Foundation 1 age children in schools and/ or private and voluntary settings
  • Experience of Leading INSET
  • Experience of partnership working with diverse organisations
  • Experience of supervision and line management of staff
  • Experience of writing complex reports and monitoring improvement plans
  • Experience of multi-agency working at a variety of levels including very senior members of organisations such as head teachers, health and social care professionals
  • A minimum qualification of NVQ3 in early years education and childcare

The successful applicant will be expected to undertake a satisfactory disclosure report from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
