Exciting opportunity in a new academy

ARK Kings Academy opened in September 2012 as a mixed, 11 to 16 non-selective comprehensive school. Our aim is to significantly improve the life chances of our students by providing them with an exceptional education.

English and literacy (alongside numeracy) is a vital foundation to future learning and key to ensuring our pupils are able to access higher education or a career of their choice. Since ARK Kings Academy replaced Kings Norton High school, we have seen real improvement in our mathematics results and it is vital that this success is matched and built upon in English.

We are therefore looking for outstanding English Teacher with a commitment to academic excellence and high classroom standards. Our ideal candidate will be a team player with a track record of supporting pupils to make exceptional progress. You will support the Subject Leader in curriculum development to ensure the academy's vision of high standards and academic achievement is upheld.

The ideal candidate will:

  • be experienced in raising attainment in a challenging classroom environment
  • have proven experience working successfully with students of all abilities
  • be able to show evidence of continually improving the teaching and learning of their subject though schemes of work and extra-curricular activities.
  • be committed to ARK's ethos of high expectations and no excuses.

Ark Kings Academy reopened as an academy in 2012, having previously been known as Kings Norton Secondary School. It provides mixed, non-denominational secondary education for pupils aged 11-16 in Birmingham.

The school is run by Ark, an international charity that has 35 schools in Birmingham, Hastings, London and Portsmouth. Ark Kings Academy currently only offers places for pupils in Years 7-11, but it has plans to open a sixth-form in 2017.

Principal

Values and vision

Ark Kings Academy has been named the most improved academy in the country. It draws its ethos from its parent charity, Ark Schools, which was founded with the intention of providing high-quality education to students from deprived and disadvantaged backgrounds, thus reducing the gap between them and pupils from wealthier backgrounds.

As well as the development of pupils, Ark Kings Academy also focuses on the development of staff, providing an increased number of training days for teachers as well as additional support in order to aid their professional success.

Ofsted report

“Leaders ensure that disadvantaged pupils are well supported. Disadvantaged pupils make similar rates of progress to other pupils nationally … Relationships between pupils and teachers are good. This reflects pupils’ enjoyment of the learning experiences they have in school."
